In a recent tragic incident, the city of Mumbai witnessed a horrendous hit-and-run accident involving a BMW car that resulted in the death of Kaveri Nakhwa, 45, and left her husband Pradeep severely injured. The driver, Mihir Shah, son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, was apprehended after days of evading the authorities. This case has not only shaken the city’s residents but also highlighted significant concerns about road safety, accountability, and the influence of political power.
The Incident
On a fateful Sunday morning in Mumbai’s Worli area, Mihir Shah was allegedly driving a BMW when he struck Kaveri Nakhwa and her husband on their two-wheeler. The impact was fatal for Kaveri, and Pradeep sustained serious injuries. The police report revealed that after the collision, Mihir Shah, in a desperate attempt to flee, dragged Kaveri for 1.5 kilometers, as evidenced by CCTV footage. The footage also showed Shah and his accomplice, Rajrishi Bidawat, brutally pulling Kaveri off the car’s bonnet and running her over again while reversing the vehicle.
The Manhunt
Following the incident, Mihir Shah went into hiding. The Mumbai Police, determined to bring him to justice, formed 11 teams and enlisted the Crime Branch’s help. A Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued to prevent him from leaving the country. The police finally arrested him near Mumbai on Tuesday. His father, Rajesh Shah, played a significant role in his escape, which led to his own arrest and subsequent bail.
Legal Proceedings
Both Rajesh Shah and Rajrishi Bidawat were presented before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (Sewree) SP Bhosale. Rajesh Shah received bail, while Bidawat was remanded in police custody. The investigation continues, with authorities piecing together the events leading to and following the tragic accident.
